Another BIG moment

Despite Melqui's behavioral problems he has always been very loving and affectionate, but tonight he really showed emotion and feeling towards his big sister.

We were all outside and the kids were running around like usual except Elisabeth started coughing really bad and spitting up a bit. Well Melqui went right up to her grabbed her arm and put his hand under her mouth (as if wanting to catch what ever comes out her mouth, which is something I do to avoid having to clean up the floor) he than tapped her back and whispered in her ear.."it's ok". How wonderful was that?!!!!! I turned to my husband and hugged him with such delight that Melqui showed that he cared for her.

He really has improved in so many areas, but it would be hard for someone who doesn't spend enough time with him to notice. I wish everyone could see this beautiful side of Melqui, But I have Faith that in due time, when the Lord allows, Melqui will be like any other child.......He gets a step closer everyday!

Great Update...A light at the end of the tunnel

Well after Melqui started Nystatin (Medicine prescribed for Yeast) we noticed that he started regressing. The very first day Melqui started this, that very night he was on HIGH speed. My husband and I actually felt bad for him because it seemed like he just couldn't control himself. Melqui just kept running back and forth and just couldn't stop. He was breathing hard and it seemed like his mind was racing faster than he was. I kept giving him the meds to see if things would improve but they only got worse.

After about a month and a half Melqui seemed to go back to square one. He just wasn't the same little guy who was improving so well. And his therapist were very concern cause they couldn't get not one decent session with him, and they started requesting that I see a doctor, but I knew what they ment they wanted me to put him on Prescription Meds for his hyperness and focus which is something I refuse for him. I'm getting Melqui better in a natural way, but I had to figure how to get him back to the way he was.

I went on to my Favorite Autism Forum and asked around. I was told to try Diflucan for the Yeast and so I did. I got the prescription immeditately, and within 2-3 days I had my baby back! He was playing with his brother and sisters more again, he was asking me for what he wanted or at least showing me what he wanted WITHOUT screaming for it! And the cutest thing was every time his little sister would fall and get hurt, he would go up to her-tap her head and say "It's O.K". And now he loves to grab your face and do Nosey (rub noses together).

But I have to say the BIGGEST WOW was on Tuesday,December 9, 2008 at around 8pm... I was outside and as I walked into my home...Melqui ran to me saying "Mama, Mama, Mama"..You could believe how fast I fell to my knees and hugged him so tight and then he said "Oooohhhh Mommy" in my ear!!!!!!!!!!! I Thanked God for that moment for it was AMAZING!!! Melqui has NEVER called me Mommy, so you could imagine how emotional I got hearing those words from him, it touched my heart in an unexplainable way!!! It's a memory that will be remembered FOREVER!!!!

Just Giving Thanks....

Well I decided to wait till after the holidays to start SCD for obvious reasons. But I just wanted to note how well Melqui has been doing. He has been taking Nystatin since Oct.18th and Cal/Mag. since Nov. 1st. I am now waiting for the delivery truck to caome and bring me his Probiotic that I ordered. I can't wait to see what this does for him.

Overall Melqui has been speaking more, trying to interact more..and at times when I feel he might not be ready for something (like a sort of outing we have) well he actually surprises me and does very good. I'm always prepared (well I try to be) with stuff at hand to keep him occupied and entertained. We went to the churches Fall Festival and it was a lot of fun, I got a little overwhelmed at the thought that Melqui might get too excited and not control himself, but I must stop thinking so negative because he was truely an angel. He acted like a big boy. And when it was time to go home, he quickly stopped what he was doing and came right along. Such a Good Boy!!!

I love Melqui with all my heart, and I am proud to have such a wonderful little boy in my life. I Thank God for him everyday and for having such an understanding family of my own.

Trying SCD recipes

Well these days have been good. We are eventually going to do SCD but before i do it completely I have been trying a couple of SCD foods to see if Melqui will accept them. This is a strict diet at first but it's so worth it! Melqui's stool test came back with high levels of ALL BAD bacteria in his belly and high levels of yeast. SCD is the answer to fixing that! He has been taking Nystatin liquid for yeast and soon will start a Probiotic that will put the "good" bacteria in his body. You see we all have bacteria in our bodies, good and bad..but it has to be balanced and Melqui obviously isn't balanced. So to get rid of the bad bacteria and yeast we must not feed him any foods that help the "bad" bacterias grow more and more, so SCD will take away those "forbidden" foods and make those "bad" bacteria and yeast die off. Sounds weird? well it works, just ask the families that have seen wonders with their child! Melqui falls right in to perfectly, this is for him!

I've tried making chicken pancakes and he liked it and I made a regular egg omelet (which he never ate eggs before) and he loved it. So I'm confident that SCD will go well, as long as I found just a few SCD food items that he liked we are at a great start, I'm SO EXCITED! everyday we are getting closer to seeing a bigger and greater improvement. I Love My Baby and would do anything for him.

Remember to always keep us in prayer!

Update

It's been about 3 mths since my last post.. my computer had a virus preventing me from using it and the way everything is going I didn't have he money to fix it. So I took my old computer and well here I am.

Well Melqui has been doing really good. Compared to when we first started the GF/CF diet along with his therapies, well he has really come a long way. Before he never spoke and would scream for everything, now he talks a lot and comes to me when he wants something instead of screaming. He has a long way to go but it's been such a BIG change.

I had a stool test done and some blood work and well Melqui has a lot of metals in his body and is going through digestive issues. The stool test showed HIGH levels of BAD bacteria and A LOT of yeast...so what does this mean.... SCD which stands for Specific Carbohydrate Diet, yes another diet! But this one will do the trick in removing all that garbage he has in his gut. You see GF/CF was good but it doesn't heal his gut ans SCD will. So many people have said how remarkable SCD is and how quickly they saw HUGE improvements from day one. It's a hard diet to follow at first but as long as you stick with it the results out weigh all of that. I am very excited to see what the SCD does for him, I'm even considering putting the whole family on it.

Happy 4th

The 4th of July
Yesterday my husband was invited to a 4th of july party at one of his customers houses. I get very hesitant when we are invited any where because I dont know how people will react to Melqui being so hyper all the time. I dont like people looking at him as if he has 2 heads, so I like to make sure people understand Melqui before judging him. Well Miguel (my husband) told me that he explained to his customer that Melqui is Autistic and she said don't worry, we deal with Special Ed kids in the family, it's nothing new, she told Miguel to bring Melqui and let him run around and play. At first I was still a little nervous, I wasn't sure if her hom was "child proof". When we arrived she greeted me outside and welcomed me and the kids. They closed down their street for a more laid back setting, which was good for all the kids. As soon as entering the home Melqui heard some kids up stairs and started screaming to go, but she quickly directed me to the play room down stairs where Melqui stayed the whole time, and very calmly. He really did surprise me and NO ONE stared or even noticed when he would "talk" LOUD..it was awesome! We even got to sit down and eat a little without worring. Then at about 9pm or so we went outside to see the fire works and at first their were some people right infront of us, across the street, doing fire works and I guess they were too close for Melqui because for about 15 minutes he wouldn't open his eyes or say anything. I wondered if it bothered his sight, so I kept going up to him and reassuring him that it was ok and I sang to him so he could try and focus on me. My husband did the same. But then on the other side of town they did a fire work show that you could see clearly and beautifully from where we were and I guess since those were farther away Melqui could tolerate it and he actually enjoyed it. He was clapping and saying "YAY!" It was nice seeing him like that. I let him out the stroller and he played nicely outside, he got a little worked up and that was our cue to go home. So overall he did a fantastic job!!!

Well Melqui is still doing good on his diet. The Tapioca bread I bought last for him, past the taste test but only one time... I just found Kinnikinnick White Sandwich Bread and they have perfected the gfcf bread. It's the closest in look and taste to regular bread that you can find! And best of all Melqui LOVES it. He eats it up every time I give it to him. It's great, I love seeing him eat food thats good for him, I get so happy! Oh, and today I received the TriEnza I ordered so I'm praying that he gets good changes with this....

Behavioral Therapy
Melqui has his first Behavioral Therapy in my home on monday for an hour, and I must say I am very pleased with the therapist. She is very nice and layed back. She gets her job done but without pressuring him. And as she goes she explains everything to me. She will be coming here every week for an hour. Overall I am extremely pleased with all of Melqui's therapist (including speech and OT) they all work with him very well, as if they have known him for awhile, you know what I mean. I'm very blessed to have some really good people working with him!
